Politics: It sounds like the bi line for this holidays biggest blockbuster; hookers, unions, sex and politics. Written, directed, starring and produced by world renowned Julia Gillard, featuring Craig Thompson. ‘ Sex and Power’ will change the way you view Australian politics forever.

The latest controversy under the Gillard government has left the wider public with a sour taste in it’s mouth. A taste that is becoming increasingly hard to cover with cash hand out ‘sweeteners’ and tax breaks. Thompson’s previous actions during his stint as head of the Health Service Union have raised the bar on salacious politics. $500,000 of member’s money being used for hookers, hotels and his election campaign. That’s just despicable Mr Thompson! You’re actions repulse me! And I’m not the only one.

As Uni students condemn his actions and wave the banner of moral righteousness, at the back of our minds we’re all probably secretly thinking; ‘I could do a much better job than him’.

Uni students, defined as the ultimate bludgers of society. We’re cocky, indie, educated, indulgent and definitely opinionated. So of course we have an opinion on the Craig Thompson issue but really we’re all just little Craig Thompsons in the making. For years we have perfected the art of how to get out of late assignments, progressing from ‘the dog ate my homework’ to ‘my hard drive accidentally fell out of my backpack and into the way of a bus- being totally crushed and its my dogs fault’. The lies are getting more ludicrous but they somehow are still working.

Furthermore, the government through grants, allowances and study assistance, supports a good majority of us.  Sounds similar to member’s money if you ask me.  And I guess you can argue we’ve used it that same way Thompson has. I mean who hasn’t heard of a drunk Uni student bludging their way through their degree on tax-payers money, enjoying life’s pleasures.

Thompson should watch out. Newer, younger, intelligent versions of the independent MP are streaming out of this nations universities. They’re perfecting the lies, enjoying the lifestyle and until we have to start paying taxes and watching someone else wasting our money, we’re not going to change. We’ll just try and take jobs from old, greying men who can’t maintain the charade – that includes you too Slipper. Because not only are we cocky but we can always blame the dog if anything goes wrong.
